SCIENCE & FUTURISTIC TECHNOLOGY
A study has found that improved bedroom ventilation can lead to better sleep quality, which has implications for overall well-being. The study, conducted over four weeks with 35 participants, showed that increasing bedroom ventilation led to fewer awakenings, increased deep sleep, and reduced light sleep, all indicating improved sleep quality.
Promising results for antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) in cancer treatment were presented at the European Society for Medical Oncology Congress, including a combination of treatments that almost halved the risk of death in patients with advanced bladder cancer, a significant advance for a cancer with historically low survival rates.
A new study led by James Hansen, a renowned climate scientist, suggests that the Earth is more sensitive to climate change than previously understood. The study predicts that global temperatures could rise beyond 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels by the 2020s, breaching a key threshold, and exceed 2 degrees Celsius by 2050, resulting in disastrous consequences, including rapid sea-level rise and the potential shutdown of vital ocean currents. However, some scientists have cast doubt on the paper's conclusions, suggesting that the rate of global warming is not accelerating beyond what models predict.
Rocket Lab plans to launch its mission to Venus at the end of 2024, with a launch window extending into 2025. The company was granted permission to resume launches by the US Federal Aviation Administration in October after a flight anomaly resulted in the loss of a payload in September. The mission will be in collaboration with Professor Sara Seager from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and will involve detecting phosphine in Venus's atmosphere to search for signs of organic matter.
